CAN I SLEEP IN MY MAKEUP?

We know how it goes, you’ve finally wrapped up a long hectic day, and all you want to do is crawl right into your bed instead of taking the time to wash your face and remove makeup. So, women often come to us and ask, “Is it that bad to sleep in my makeup?”

Well, the easiest answer we can give to you is; “Yes.”

We have found that women sleep in their makeup for a few reasons:

1. They don’t want a bedmate to see what they look like. (Tip: That person probably isn’t worth your time if that is the case.)

2. They are too tired after the long day. (Tip: Maybe try to wash your face before starting that movie and the sleepiness sets in?)

3. The evening’s activities lead to sudden sleepiness and perhaps even forgetfulness of your regular evening makeup removal routine. (Tip: Watch your alcohol intake – it’s not good for your skin in more ways than one! Enjoy, just not too much!)

Your skin is the most active at night because that’s when it repairs and rejuvenates itself. Sleeping in your makeup limits the skin’s ability to breathe and repair itself. It also ends up all over your pillowcase which will then continue to breed harmful bacteria. Then, on the nights you do go to bed with a clean face, the leftover makeup on your pillow from the evening before will be spread back onto your face. Sleeping in products like mascara can also cause your lashes to break, harboring germs which can eventually cause eye infections.

What about makeup remover wipes?

We always suggest you wash your face with a quality face wash and water for the best possible results for your skin’s overall appearance, but we understand that sometimes this simply doesn’t happen. If you are someone who just can’t commit to always washing, leave some makeup remover wipes on your nightstand to ensure that you at least get your makeup off. We also have a great eye maker remover that will break down the makeup, making it easier to wash from your face without the need to wipe hard, which can lead to wrinkles.
