“What exactly is a keratin treatment?”
Often called Brazilian hair treatments, the procedure is a semi-permanent, curl smoothing and hair smoothing chemical process that can last for 6-12 weeks. The products being used during the treatment make the hair make appear shinier and healthier by softening the natural curl pattern. Keratin treatments make your hair more manageable, therefore blowdry and styling time is cut in half. They accomplish this effect by using a combination of chemicals, conditioners, and keratin. Keratin is actually a protein found in our hair already that helps to add strength.
“What’s the process like?”
At Salon Freda, the treatment starts by washing your hair with a clarifying shampoo, then it is blow dried. The treatment product (Keratin Complex) is then applied with a comb to your hair section-by-section. We let the product sit for about 20-30 minutes to penetrate the hair cuticle. We then blow dry until the hair is about 75% dry. Finally, we use a flat iron to seal the treatment to your hair. From start to finish it takes about 2-3 hours depending on your hair type.
“Is it safe?”
Stylists and customers can rest assured at Salon Freda that the keratin products we use have very low percentages of keratin processing chemicals. Because of this low chemical content and Salon Freda’s customized ventilation system, there’s very little odor, keeping it safe to use. The Keratin Complex balances the polymerization process so the encapsulated aldehydes are sealed inside the hair shaft instead of going into the air. This technology makes it both a safe and effective choice.
