Today we are finishing up our special January Blog Series: Creating the Best YOU in 2016. We do hope you have found the posts this month to be encouraging and uplifting as you work to be confident and amazing in 2016 and beyond. Today, we end this month of encouragement with a special post about becoming a truly courageous woman.
What does it mean to be truly courageous? Webster defines it as this:
“Mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.”
But as you know, this is often easier said than done. Women today are in a battle of trying to please many people and get to the end of a seemingly never-ending ‘to-do’ list. So how can we live fully and purposefully while trying to live up to the expectations of our families, careers and the many everyday demands of life? Consider these tips:
Tip #1: Start Simple
Make a few smaller goals that you can realistically accomplish. Maybe you want to become a runner but you’ve never run more than the mile you had to back in elementary school. Don’t start by signing up for a marathon, maybe try a 5k first. See building your strength and courage as a journey – not just a destination.
Tip #2: Expect Fear
Being courageous is all about facing something that scares you and not running away from it. Instead of letting it prevent you from your goals, try focusing on the people or the cause that you’re standing up for as motivation.
Tip #3: Find Courageous Role Models
Is there someone in your life that you admire for their ability to be successful despite many obstacles? Talk to them and find out what they do to ensure they meet the goals they’ve set for themselves. Let them serve as your motivation.
Tip #4: Make Courage a Habit
You can’t expect to magically become a courageous person without some work. Make a habit of deciding what your opinion is on something and speaking with conviction (but not arrogance) about it.
Lastly, start now. There is no better time like the present to begin accomplishing the dreams and goals you have for yourself. The biggest thing holding you back is fear itself. Wake up each day and make a conscious decision to find your courage to be the most amazing and courageous woman you can be – we know you can do it.
