“Keep your face always toward the sunshine – and shadows will fall behind you.”
-Walt Whitman
Wise words from a wise person. But often this is easier said than done, right? It seems as if even when we have the best of intentions to change our attitude in the New Year and put our best foot forward, something seems to creep its way in that puts us right back to where we were back on December 31st – possibly feeling frustrated, angry, and irritable. But it doesn’t have to be that way! It’s all about how you let your mind respond to that negative energy that can help you to continuously overcome it.
Don’t be discouraged by those negative reactions, because YOU have the power to change them!
So, how do you flush out those evil, mind-narrowing thoughts and replace them with more positive reactions? Here are a few tricks:
Be Like A Child: Take their lead and schedule time to do the things you really enjoy – join a bowling league, take an art class or just sit down and color with your kids. Do something that YOU really enjoy and allow yourself to enjoy it like like a child would.
Write/Blog/Record Positive Thoughts: Research suggests that if you log positive thoughts on a consistent basis, you are more likely to have an increase in mood and better health. Who knows? You might learn a few new things along the way as well!
Relax: Did you know people who make meditation a part of their everyday life are far more likely to display positive emotions? Daily meditation helps to increase life purpose, social understanding and actually decreases many symptoms of illness. Even if you don’t have the attention span to meditate, maybe even join a yoga class. Do something to help your mind and body relax.
To sum it all up, change your life and change your attitude by finding and focusing on the joy in challenging situations. Take opportunities to identify the good in a situation and you can overcome negativity throughout 2016 and beyond! You’re so worth it. We can’t wait to see you soon!
