IS YOUR MAKEUP TOO OLD?

Just like everything else in life, your cosmetics need to be refreshed and revamped. Keeping everything as fresh and clean as possible. Once that bottle, tube, or compact is opened, the clock starts ticking on how long it is still safe and effective for use. When we open a product, air is introduced; and that means bacteria starts to breed and grow. We always encourage our clients to air on the side of caution – one bad skin or eye infection and you will agree with us!

Better Safe Than Sorry

As a guideline, mascara should be replaced every month. Replace liquid or cream products like lipstick, lip gloss, liquid eyeliners, and foundation every six months. Pressed powders, eyeshadows and blushes have more wear time as you can keep using those for up to a year.

To help your products last their longest, keep these tips in mind:

Wash it.
Wash your brushes and applicators on a regular basis to cut down on the bacteria. (Ask us in the store, we have a great brush cleaner that should last you a while! And stay tuned for a blog to help you use it!)

Stop it.
If you develop any type of skin or eye infection, stop using those products immediately since you could cause contamination, delay healing, or spread the problem further with continued use. Please be careful! Make sure you are following these best practices to prevent infection and get the most out of your products.

Smell it.
When you first open any package, take a quick smell to know what a fresh and clean product smells like. By taking a quick sniff test when the product is new, you can better determine when your products have gone beyond their lifespan.

The bottom line is, don’t risk your beauty or health by trying to prolong your products’ life. All good things do come to an end, but when they do you’ll be prepared to make the next one even better!

And don’t forget to come to our big Makeup Bag Revamp event on March 31st here at Faces by Freda. We’ll help you address all these concerns and you can leave with a clean and fresh slate.
