FREDA’S GUIDE TO MAKEUP BRUSH MAINTENANCE

Cleaning your makeup brushes is a major step in ensuring both a flawless makeup application as well as keeping your skin free from dirt, bacteria, and debris. Much like changing out your disposable razor each week and replacing that old mascara once a month, keeping those brushes clean should be a regular part of your beauty routine. It’s an important step because failing to do so can be a cause of a variety of infections on the skin and in the eyes – and no one wants that!

You might quickly discover after a few Google searches that there are a lot of techniques out there for brush cleaning, but here at Faces by Freda we have a process we believe is both convenient and useful.

Here’s how to do it:

You will need to start with an excellent product that you can use for daily brush cleaning. It’s the same product we use at our makeup stations here at Faces by Freda. It’s called “Brush Off,” and we suggest spraying a few spritzes onto a tissue and wiping the brush gently back and forth, making sure to maintain the shape of the bristles . Depending on the size you want, this product runs from just $11-$15 a bottle. It’s now available both at Faces and our online store.

In addition to the quick spray cleanings, you should also make a habit of deep cleaning your brushes once a week with a gentle cleaning product like baby shampoo or a mild soap. Apply a small amount of soap and massage the bristles as you would wash your hair by creating a lather, then rinse out the soap and squeeze out any excess water. Then, simply lay the brushes out flat on a towel so they can dry back to their regular shape overnight. Keep in mind not to soak brushes overnight – doing so can shorten their lifespan and ruin the handles if you get them too wet.

High-quality makeup brushes can be a big investment, and when they are cared for properly, they’ll work better and last forever! We don’t want you to risk your money and your skin with poor brush care, and as always, if you have any questions about how to do it properly, don’t hesitate to stop in or give us a call!
